We had such a magical time at Gili Lankanfushi – it truly is paradise on Earth!

Everything was just perfect – we were lucky enough to get Villa 17 (one of the ones that you had requested), so we had complete privacy and the best outlook on the island. The villa itself had everything that we could possibly need, and our Mr Friday looked after us very well. We had a fabulous time snorkelling, particularly after getting a private swim with the marine biologist – and saw so many amazing fish, turtles, reef sharks and rays.

One of our favourite things was taking advantage of the honeymoon special that you had organised for us at sunset with the champagne on Castaway Island – what we thought was just a small pontoon, but once we arrived it had a fully sunken in lounge, delicious canapes and a bottle of Laurent Perrier, so we were very happy! The dolphin cruise was great as well – I’ve never seen a Spinner Dolphin before. And the Meera Spa was absolute heaven – we loved it so much that we rebooked immediately after our first treatment.

Thank you so much for arranging this amazing trip for us…now we just need to save up so that we can go back for our first anniversary!

Kind regards,

Clementine & Alex, Sydney, Australia

Dear Annette,

We had a fabulous time at Gili Lankanfushi.

The resort is pristine, eco-friendly, delicious food, fabulous service and thoroughly enjoyable.
The weather at the end of January was less humid than our previous stay in April, and dry, so the weather was fantastic!

We enjoyed morning yoga and Qi Gong, the private cinema, snorkelling and dolphin watching (though minimal dolphins, but that can’t be helped!).

We had a fabulous time and hope to return one day.

Thanks for assisting us with organising such a fabulous holiday

Kind regards

Jonica - Sydney

I spent what I now refer to as the most amazing holiday of my life, at the Soneva Gili resort in the Maldives last year. To say that I was impressed with the resort and the Maldives generally would be to do it a gross injustice. I was absolutely blown away!. It was truly 'heaven on earth'. Looking back at the photos I have to pinch myself that I was ever there. The spectacular natural beauty of the Maldives and the outstanding efficiency and pure charm of the local staff, who I grew to love during my short time there, made it the holiday of a lifetime. I will never forget it. Thank you Extraordinary Escapes for delivering on that promise!!

Roslyn Hunter, Brisbane, Australia

My family absolutely loved the trip and it will be a very treasured time for our family to remember. Thanks for all your great organisation it really helped to make the trip terrific. Thanks Extraordinary Escapes.

Amy, Sydney, Australia

We have safely returned from our holiday and had a lovely time. Really appreciated the Gili experience and seemed more akin to what we experienced at Landaa. Having an over water villa on such a scale was great and I don't think we swam in the resort pool once as the lagoon was so inviting. We found the resort to be very hospitable with a relaxing vibe, luxurious without being too ostentatious.  The standard of the food was excellent and we really enjoyed our wine cave dinner.

The Gili Spa is an absolute highlight of this incredible resort. Set in a serene environment, over-water with glass bottom floor treatment rooms, the Spa offers an entirely holistic approach to your well-being. The Spa fits perfectly with the entire Gili theme and will leave you completely refreshed, rejuvenated and revitalised.

The stunningly natural resort pool is surrounded by palm trees and white hammocks. It is the perfect location to relax the day away with the hardest decision being whether you should take a dip in the pool or the lagoon or order some lunch first from the waiter who has been thoughtfully topping up your iced water.

Gili Lankanfushi is a boutique resort with only 45 villas, located an easy 20 minute speed boat transfer from Male. Gili Lankanfushi is all about creating the most perfect guest experience, the 'Gili experience'. Looking at photos of Gili Lankanfushi just isn't enough to understand what a holiday here would be like. The essence of Gili Lankanfushi is their 'No news, no shoes' way of life. On arrival you are asked to place your shoes in a little cloth drawstring bag given to you by your Mr Friday and you are told that unless you want to, you don't have to wear shoes at all during your stay, immediately helping you feel relaxed and unburdened.

Gili Lankanfushi is about leaving the pressures of life behind. It is about a natural island escape, soaking up the incredible beauty of the Maldives, relaxing in a hammock, re-energizing at the Spa, dining in remote locations, all while keeping within their theme of barefoot luxury.

The island is large enough to have bikes to ride around on and plenty of areas to explore. The villas are all over-water and they are the largest out of any over-water accommodation in the Maldives. The villas are built from timber and have a very Robinson Crusoe feel but with all of the luxury mod-cons that you would expect at this level of resort (Bose surround sound indoor and outdoor stereo, an amazing espresso machine, to name a few).

Gili is about truly relaxing you and spoiling you with outstanding service. Having a Mr Friday allocated to you for your entire stay is service of the highest standard but in a very personalised way. You are provided with your Mr Friday's extension number and he will look after everything for you from extra pillows to snorkelling excursions. Your Mr Friday is such a wonderful part of your stay at Gili and you will remember him for years after.

The 'Gili experience' is also about all of the little things that they do throughout your stay to make certain you know that you are the most important guest on the island. From the extraordinary welcome plate created by the Head Chef and placed in your villa for your arrival, through to the little daily surprises, whether it be afternoon macaroons delivered to your villa, or your Mr Friday noticing that you like to eat your breakfast at a particular table. Their attention to detail is second to none.

Gili has multiple dining options and a stunning over-water sunset bar. The resort has a very relaxed feel and even if it is at full occupancy, you will wonder where everyone is. We put it down to the fact that the villas are so palatial, in a Robinson Crusoe way, that guests don't want to leave their villa! In the main area of the island, there is a cluster of beautiful white washed villas with thatched roofing, housing a couple of shops and other facilities such as the marine centre.

The house reef is located between what the locals call One Palm Island and Three Palm Island. It is a few hundred metres from shore but don't worry, in true Gili style, they will take you there in one of their pontoon boats or better yet, if you want to swim, they have built a floating pontoon half-way for you to relax on!

Must Do: For an experience that you will not get anywhere else in the world, try one of the Crusoe Residences standing alone in the lagoon. There are only seven of these villas facing the sunset and you are given your own pontoon boat to access the main island. Far enough away to be totally private but close enough to swim if you want the exercise! What a perfect Robinson Crusoe escape.

Gili Lankanfushi's villas are completely unique in design. They would have to be the largest over-water villas in the Maldives with multiple living areas to every villa. When your Mr Friday shows you around the Villa for the first time, you think that you must have been mistakenly upgraded.

The villas are designed with a very Robinson Crusoe feel and fit perfectly with what many people imagine as their ultimate deserted island holiday. The villas are palatial and luxurious with all of the luxury mod-cons that fit within the Robinson Crusoe design such as a Bose surround sound stereo system, flat screen TV, air-con etc. The villa bedroom is air-conditioned and is alone the size of other resort's entire over-water villas. It has one of the world's most comfortable beds with white netting draped overhead to enhance the rustic island look, a large flat screen TV tastefully hidden for you to choose to watch if you want, floor to ceiling windows on all sides that can be fully opened to create an open air feel if you prefer.

The living area has two daybeds in bright yellows and oranges, a dining table and steps that lead down to a stunning sundeck that is only a few steps down to the lagoon, a unique feature of the Gili Villas in that other resorts' water-villas are higher up. It is really wonderful being closer to the water. On the other side of the Villa you have an expansive bathroom with glass bottom floor, dressing area and even a rustic wooden bridge that takes you to the over-water outdoor shower. Everything at Gili is an experience. Finally, there is a set of spiral stairs that lead to your private upper deck area, complete with a gorgeous day bed that your Mr Friday can set up for you to sleep under the stars and a dining table for a beautiful starlit dinner.

The Gili Residences have an enclosed, air-conditioned living area, creating a fantastic two-bedroom option for a family with a huge amount of space. The living area is really beautiful with a glass bottom floor, its own flat-screen TV and DVD and doors that completely fold back so that during the day you can enjoy the beautiful open air design of the Gili Villas.

Villa Suite: 210 sqm

Located over-water either side of a jetty, the Villa Suites reflect a harmonious life on the water's edge. Sit back and relax while looking out to the sea, basking in the sun on your own 'over water' sundeck or enjoy your luxurious private oasis on the hidden rooftop sundeck with daybeds as well as dining facilities.

The Room features:
King-sized bed (some residences can have twin beds) in air-conditioned bedroom
Large open-air living room with daybeds and dining area
Rooftop sun deck with daybed and dining facilities
Over-water sun deck with sun loungers
Open-air private bathroom with separate glass walled shower area

MUST DO: Have Extraordinary Escapes or your Mr Friday arrange a lunch at a table set up in the shallow waters of the lagoon with the waves gently lapping at your ankles! Or try one of the other amazing private dining options available for couples, groups or families.

Gili Lankanfushi is about creating the perfect 'Gili experience' for every guest and this of course includes dining. Anything and anywhere is Gili's concept. Extraordinary Escapes together with your Mr Friday will create this for you. Imagine having a private Arabian style dinner set up on One Palm Island, with lanterns surrounding the low set arrangement or having dinner elevated at a table built at the height of the palm trees, with 360 degree views out over the lagoon. Sunken tables cut into the sand, dining on the upper deck of your villa, canap's and cocktails on the floating pontoon. Anything is possible.

Gili Lankanfushi has two first class restaurants. The main restaurant is themed beautifully with the white stucco walls and sand bottom floor. The under-ground wine cellar forms part of this area, set down a flight of polished concrete stairs. It has large white pebbles covering the floor and a huge drift wood trunk used as the table. Wine dinners are held here but you can also experience this as part of everyday breakfasts with the cold foods being displayed in the cellar to create a great breakfast experience.

By the Sea is their stunning Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant. It is unique in menu as well as design. Walk down a path lined with fire burning lanterns. Climb up a set of winding wooden stairs. By the Sea is set on the second storey with the canopy of the palm trees surrounding, facing out towards the lagoon, low set tables with huge bright green and purple cushions, even the roof is unique decorated with thousands of leaves pressed against the thatched coconut palms. It is an experience not to be missed.

By The Sea:

By The Sea presents a fusion Peruvian-Japanese culinary adventure combining breath-taking views of the ocean with intimate dining for just 26 guests. Located at the top of a double story facility located on the island, the restaurant features an exclusive dining experience with five tables and daybeds, in addition to the Sushi Bar and bistro seating. The expansive tasting menu fuses traditional Japanese with indigenous European, Asian and Peruvian flavours. Local ingredients are used, which include the daily catch and fresh organic produce picked from the resort's own gardens. Our signature dishes are well accompanied by a fine selection of Japanese sakes and an extensive list of wines.

Must Do: Have Extraordinary Escapes or your Mr Friday arrange a private sunset viewing at the Gili floating pontoon with champagne and canap's.

Another 'Must Do' is Gili's amazing jungle cinema located in a private area surrounded by palm trees and vegetation. The Bose surround sound speakers placed throughout the trees and cushioned deck chairs to relax on make this an experience you will never forget.

Gili's philosophy is centred around creating the perfect guest experience. Without even trying, with their no news no shoes philosophy and with the way the resort and villas are designed, Gili will start to relax you within hours of being there. It is a resort where doing nothing seems the perfect way to pass the day, taking in the stunning surrounds, swimming in the lagoon after a leisurely breakfast, having an afternoon Spa treatment, watching the sunset and finishing off the day with an exotic dinner.

Having said this, if your perfect guest experience involves more activity, then your Mr Friday will work with you to create any experience that you can think of. It is a beautiful island with covered pathways and natural island vegetation that you can explore on bikes.

Gili is very proud of their Organic Garden, which produces many of the fresh fruits, salads, herbs and vegetables used in their kitchens. The Gili Organic Garden is open for guests to explore and you can even have a private lunch or dinner at a table set up on a platform with a shaded roof built in the middle of the garden.

Families staying at Gili are looked after in a very personal way. Gili doesn't have a traditional Kids Club but instead you have a Mr Friday who will look after anything that you need. Gili is perfect for families looking for a family break together. Extraordinary Escapes together with your Mr Friday can arrange a family pizza making class at the resort's outdoor wood fired pizza caf' or a family sushi making class at the stunning By the Sea restaurant. You also have all of the other excursions on offer such as snorkelling, dolphin watching, fishing and even private surf safaris.

Even the Gym at Gili has a way of unwinding you while working out. It is a stunning gym, built in Gili style, timber surrounds with a floor to ceiling glass front facing out to the lagoon. It is one of my favourite gyms in the Maldives. What better way to exercise on holiday than with a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean!

Activities available during your stay at Gili include

Must Do: We love the way the Meera Spa sources its treatments from the natural surroundings. We would highly recommend beginning with the Stimulating Seaweed Body Buff followed by the Detox Seaweed Mud Wrap.

The Gili Spa is an absolute highlight of this incredible resort. It is an oasis built on stilts over-water in the lagoon. Meera is built with the same timber Robinson Crusoe design matching the villas and the resort. It has an immediate calming effect from the moment you walk up the jetty.

There are 6 treatment rooms all with glass bottom floors and private change facilities with your own steam room and sauna. The Spa gets their inspiration for their treatments from the incredibly rich natural surroundings. They are focussed on relaxing, rejuvenating and recharging guests with an entirely holistic approach to your well-being.

A very unique feature of the Meera Spa is the Wellness Programs they formulate with the visiting holistic physicians sourced from around the world. These visiting physicians and therapists are highly skilled in traditional healing therapies such as acupuncture, meditation, yoga, crystal chakra balancing and even the ancient art of the Tibetan Singing Bowls used for relaxation.

Meera means ocean in the Sanskrit language, and glass floor panels beneath the massage tables offer a peek underwater to heighten the sensual experience. The Spa offers a range of holistic therapies, and the signature bamboo massage with warmed aromatic oils presents yet another new encounter. Other facilities include six overwater treatment rooms, a yoga or Tai Chi champa, steam and sauna rooms, as well as a relaxation area with panoramic views of the sea. Meera Spa is a member of Healing Hotels of the World.
